FRX:Demand for safe heaven brought gains for the dollar and losses for the Asian stock markets
After the Feds lowered the growth and employment estimates for the US yet did not signal additional stimulus, fears fueled risk aversion, and the safe heaven dollar strengthened, while the Asian stocks fell for the first time in three sessions.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell by 0.7% to 131.09 at 14:07 in Tokyo amid concerns China will raise interest rates, which could slow the global recovery even more. Meanwhile Trichet warned from the debt crisis that started threatening the financial markets.
Nikkei 225
Nikkei 225 fell today by 0.34% or 32.69 points closing at 9596.74. From 225 shares, 69 advanced, 135 declined and 21 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the industrials that lost 11.62 points and technology that lost 7.41 points.
Lagging shares today were Kyocera Corp which fell by 1.69% closing at 8140 yen, second was KDDI Corp which fell by 2.34% closing at 584000 yen. And Nikon Corp which fell by 4.89% closing at 1926 yen.
Among the shares that advanced Fast Retailing Co Ltd topped the list by rising 2.06% closing at 12880 yen, followed by Fanuc Ltd which rose by 1.04% and closing at 12640 yen. And Softbank Corp which rose by 0.84% and closing at 3010 yen.
S&P/ASX 200
The S&P/ASX 200 fell today by 0.71% or 32.10 points closing at 4500.50. From 200 companies, 61 shares ended green, 121 ended in red and 18 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the financials that lost 11.36 points and basic materials that lost 8.12 points.
Lagging shares today included Medusa Mining that retreated 8.32% closing at 6.61 Australian dollars, trailed by Gindalbie Metals Ltd loosing 6.15% closing at 0.84 dollars. And Murchison Metals Ltd falling 5.56% closing at 0.77 Australian dollars.
Paladin Energy Ltd inclined the most today as it rose 10.37% closing at 2.66 Australian dollars, followed by Telecom Corp of New Zealand Ltd surging 4.05% closing at 1.93 Australian dollars, and Perseus Mining Ltd that surged by 3.91% closing at 2.66 Australian dollars.
