NAIROBI, June 24 (Reuters) - The Kenyan shilling dipped against the dollar on Friday pressured by end-month demand for the greenback from oil and maize importers, and traders said it could weaken further.
Traders said the market was trading cautiously after the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Njuguna Ndung'u, said on Thursday it had taken unspecified action against some commercial banks to curb speculative positions versus the shilling.
Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta weighed in on the issue, saying he would meet Ndung'u later on Friday to discuss whether there was need to take further action against the banks in question.
