RTRS:S.Africa's rand up as commodity currencies gain
* Money supply accelerates, credit slows
* Commodity currencies gain overnight
* Producer price inflation in focus
JOHANNESBURG, June 30 - South Africa's rand extended its gains slightly on Thursday against the dollar as commodity currencies rallied after Greeks voted for a five-year austerity plan, sending investors back into risk assets.
Greek lawmakers voted by a clear margin for a five-year austerity plan, suggesting the government should be able to push through a second package of laws on Thursday, implementing specific budget measures and asset sales.
"The rand has continued to strengthen, we are lagging a little bit, but all the commodity currencies have strengthened quite dramatically overnight," said Jim Bryson of Rand Merchant Bank. The Australian and New Zealand dollars were among the gainers in the commodity group.
"That Greek vote was taken extremely positive and overall we would expect to see the euro going higher," he added. The rand also often tracks the euro against the dollar.
By 0718 GMT the rand ZAR=D3 was at 6.7835 to the greenback, 0.09 percent firmer than Wednesday's close of 6.7925.
