MW: Gold heads for a seventh-straight win; oil falls

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures climbed Wednesday in New York, poised to mark their seventh winning session in a row, and crude-oil prices inched lower, pulling back after a 2.4% climb a day earlier. Gold for August delivery GC1Q +1.06% was up $17, or 1.1%, at $1,579.30, trading in record territory as global debt concerns continue to support investment demand. September silver SI1U +4.75% led the gains among the metals, trading $1.67, or 4.7%, at $37.30 an ounce. August crude CL1Q -0.69% , however, fell by 57 cents, or 0.6%, to $96.86 a barrel ahead of the latest weekly update on U.S. petroleum supplies at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
