MW: Gold climbs, set to log eighth winning session

By Myra P. Saefong

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures edged higher Thursday, looking to extend their winning streak to an eighth session in a row as global financial crisis concerns lingered. But a fall in U.S. jobless claims to their lowest since mid-April limited gains for the precious metal. Gold for August delivery GC1Q +0.30% rose $4.30, or 0.3%, to $1,589.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices, which marked their highest nominal settlement price on Wednesday, tallied a gain of almost $103 in seven sessions. September silver SI1U +2.59% was also up $1, or 2.6%, to $39.15 an ounce.
