Mumbai: The rupee rose marginally by 1 paise to Rs 44.48 per US dollar in the opening trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today, supported by a higher opening in the stock market.
The domestic unit had appreciated by 3 paise to close at Rs 44.49/50 against the US dollar in the previous session on mild dollar selling by exporters.
Forex dealers said a higher opening in the stock market mainly helped the rupee trade higher against the US dollar in the early trade, but the euros weakness against the American currency overseas capped the gains.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was up by 105.35 points or 0.57 per cent at 18,723.55 in the opening trade.
