HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Home prices across leading Chinese cities extended their rise in June, led by a 5.8% climb in Chongqing, while Shanghai and Beijing showed more modest gains, with prices in each city rising 2.2% from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday. Nationwide, home prices rose 4.2% for the month, according to Reuters' caluculations using the data. The statistics bureau jettisoned its national price indicator earlier this year as part of changes in its methodology, amid criticism that official data vastly underestimated the real rate of asset inflation.
