LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Australian shares traded lower early Monday. The S&P/ASX 200 AU:XJO +0.05% was down 0.3% at 4,461.80. Leading decliners included Woodside Petroleum Ltd. AU:WPL -2.35% WOPEF -2.54% , falling 1.9%, and MarketWatch parent News Corp. AU:NWS -3.86% NWS +0.63% NWSA +1.33% , dropping 3.9% amid a deepening scandal over alleged mobile-phone hacking at the now-shuttered British tabloid News of the World.
