RA:Australian dollar surges to new high against greenback
Not so long ago economists were wondering whether the Australian dollar would ever reach parity with its US counterpart.
Now it's not only equalled the American dollar but eclipsed it, trading on Wednesday at a new post-float record of 110.8 US cents.
And amid continuing uncertainty over the economic situation in Europe and the increasingly tense standoff in Washington over the country's debt ceiling, there are predictions it could go even higher.
