RTRS:Euro falls sharply, dollar plumbs record low vs Swiss franc

(Reuters) - The euro fell sharply on Thursday, tumbling to a one-week low versus the dollar while the Swiss franc rallied across the board, clocking a record high versus the dollar.

The euro fell as low as $1.4272 from around $1.4340 in a matter of minutes. Traders said stop-loss orders triggered below $1.4320 and through $1.4280 had exacerbated the single currency's losses, while some cited particularly heavy selling by a U.S. bank.

Some market participant said the euro had come under selling pressure after the results of Italian bond auctions showed that Rome paid high interest rates on its debt offers to draw decent demand.

The euro's fall versus the dollar dragged it to a session trough versus the Swiss franc of 1.1426 francs . This nudged the dollar to a record low of 0.7990 francs according to electronic trading platform EBS, as traders took out option barriers at that level.
