MW: Treasury prices extend gains after jobless-claims

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Treasury prices rose Thursday after U.S. jobless claims dropped 24,000 to 398,000. Yields on 10-year notes 10_YEAR -0.67% , which move inversely to prices, fell 3 basis points to 2.95% and yields on 2-year notes 2_YEAR -2.44% shed 2 basis points to 0.43%. 30-year bond yields 30_YEAR -0.56% dropped 3 basis points to 4.26%. Before the jobless-claims data was released Treasurys were up on contagion fears about Europe, as yields on Italian and Spanish government bonds are rising.
