LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Car rental company Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. DTG -0.15% said Monday that its second-quarter net profit rose 0.6% to $42.5 million from $42.3 million as revenue for the quarter slipped 0.3% to $395.1 million. The firm said earnings per share dropped to $1.36 from $1.40 due to an increase in the number of shares outstanding. Adjusted earnings in the latest quarter were $1.35 a share. Analysts had been expecting earnings of $1.37 a share. Dollar Thrifty said it is continuing to cooperate with Avis Budget Group Inc. CAR -2.38% and Hertz Global Holdings Inc. HTZ -2.40% , which have both bid for the group, but that it doesn't have any agreement over merger terms with either rival. For the year, Dollar Thrifty said that if rental rates remain under pressure revenue is likely to be flat compared to 2010.
