MW:U.S. stock index futures drop, gold at new high

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock index futures posted heavy losses Friday, while gold futures continued to soar into record territory as growth worries continued to pressure global equity markets. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJ1U -1.70% fell 156 points to 10,861, while Standard & Poor's 500 Index futures SP1U -1.97% dropped 18.70 points to 1,124.80. Nasdaq 100 futures ND1U -1.39% dropped 32 points to 2,050. Gold for December delivery GC1Z +2.52% traded as high as $1,872 an ounce in electronic trade, according to FactSet Research, and changed hands in recent action at $1,862, a rise of $40.
