ET:Rupee strong on shares, euro; global economy worries stay
MUMBAI: Rupee was strong in afternoon trades on Monday helped by the surge in domestic stocks and the euro.
* At 1:55 p.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 45.88/89 per dollar, stronger from Friday's close of 46.145/155.
* The euro was $1.4522 from $1.4422 at end of domestic currency market on Friday, and the index of the dollar against six major currencies was at 73.607 points from 74.017 points previously.
* The local benchmark share index jumped more than 3 per cent, joining a rebound across Asia after US Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke left the door open for further action to stimulate the world's biggest economy.
* So far in trade, the rupee has touched a high of 45.76 after opening at 45.93. Some traders expect the rupee to retreat once again towards 46 weighed by underlying caution on global growth and the truncated trading week.
* The local foreign exchange market will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday for festivals.
