MW:Euro-zone Aug. economic sentiment indicator falls

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- The European Commission on Tuesday said its economic sentiment indicator for the 17-nation euro zone fell to 98.3 in August from 103.0 in July. Economists had forecast a more modest decline to 100.5. The consumer confidence index declined to -16.5 from -11.2 in July, while the industry index fell to -2.9 from 0.9. The services index fell to 3.7 in August from 7.9, while the retail trade index dropped to -8.7 from -3.6. The construction index bucked the trend, rising to -23.3 from -24.3 in July.
