PN:Rupee slips 6 paise against dollar, stays below year low
The Indian Rupee slipped 6 paise to Rs. 46.22 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Thursday as the US currency firmed up against other major rivals overseas. The rupee continues to trade at its lowest level since September 2010.
The rupee tracked weak cues from Asian currencies, most of which are down against the dollar, as traders avoided building large positions. Strong dollar demand from oil importers has further dampened sentiment for the Rupee.
On Wednesday, the rupee had settled at one-year low of 46.16/17 against the US currency because of sustained dollar demand from importers and some banks. The dollar index, a measure of six major currencies, was down by nearly 0.3 per cent.
