MW:Gold futures edge lower in late Asia trading hours

By Chris Oliver
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures were a tad weaker in late Asian trade Thursday, with the December contract at $1,812.50, a drop of $14 per troy ounce from U.S. settlement on Wednesday, with diminished demand for the safe-haven after assurances from France and Germany on keeping Greece within the euro. News that a rougue trader had run up a $2 billion loss at the investment division of Swiss bank UBS AG through unauthorized trading had little effect on the precious metals markets as investors judged the renewed resolve on aid to Greece more significant.
