RTRS:AngloGold Ashanti up, CEO sees higher gold price
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Shares of AngloGold Ashanti jumped nearly 4 percent at the start of trade on Monday after the CEO of the South African miner said he expects gold prices to hit $2,200 an ounce by next year and hinted the company could boost its dividend.
Mark Cutifani told Reuters during a tour of AngloGold's Cripple Creek & Victor mine in Colorado on Sunday that he expects further gains in the surging price of the precious metal.
"Given that we've already seen $1,900 gold, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a price going up to $2,000, even $2,200," he said.
Cutifani also said the company is "already talking" about its dividend policy with the board and it would be able to further comment when it releases its next quarterly earnings on November 9.
Shares of AngloGold were up 3.5 percent at 356.06 rand, making the miner the top percentage gainer among Johannesburg's Top-40 index of blue chips.
