SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- The Australian dollar fell though parity with the U.S. dollar for the first time since March on Thursday, with the currency at one point trading as low as 99.94 U.S. cents. It later recovered slightly to $1.0006. The fall in the Australian unit came on a day when Asian equity markets were recording steep losses, with the Australian S&P/ASX 200 index AU:XJO -2.57% trading down 2.5%, and with the U.S. dollar rising following the Federal Reserve's policy meeting.
