MW: Energy stocks pressured in commodity, equity swoon

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Energy stocks moved more deeply into the red than the broad equities market Thursday as the sector joined a rout in global stock and commodity markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -3.32% dropped 318 points, or 2.8%, while crude oil futures declined 5.7% to $81.07 a barrel. Within the 30-stock DJIA, components Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM -2.75% and Chevron Corp. CVX -4.87% fell 2.3% and 3.9% respectively. Energy stock components in the S&P 500 fell 4.5%, the worst-performing of 10 subsectors tracked by FactSet.
