The euro dropped 0.71% versus the greenback to trade at $1.3501, down from $1.3584 on Thursday. According to the European Union statistics agency Eurostat, annual inflation in September accelerated at a 3% pace, versus 2.5% in August. However, economists were expecting inflation to hold steady at 2.5%.
The dollar index, which measures the US unit against a basket of major rivals, climbed 0.53% to 78.33, from 77.917 in North American trade late Thursday.
