South Africa's rand advanced to a two-week high against the dollar on Wednesday, becoming the top performer on the day among 20 global emerging market currencies tracked by Reuters.
The rand gained 1.9 percent to hit a session high of 7.7777, its strongest since Sept 28. It was trading at 7.80 to the dollar at 10:27 SA time, from Tuesday's New York close of 7.9285.
Government bonds also firmed, with the yield on the 2015 bond down six basis points to 6.64 percent and that on the 2026 issue falling five basis points to 8.33 percent. - Reuters
