EN:Exchange rates: RBS advises currency investors to buy Australian dollar, Canadian dollar vs Pound
The pound euro exchange rate is 0.067% higher at 1 GBP = 1.1431 EUR.
The pound Canadian dollar exchange rate is 0.061% higher with 1 GBP = 1.6041 CAD.
The pound Australian dollar exchange rate is 0.779% lower with 1 GBP = 1.5393 AUD.
With Fitch's downgrade of Spain and today's Italian confidence vote, negative Euro-zone periphery news continues to simmer away in the background.
Exchange rate analysts at RBS say that although PM Berlusconi is likely to survive on this occasion, political wrangling continues to threaten progress on the implementation of the measures necessary to tackle Italy's rising borrowing costs.
RBS go on to say:
"However, should US retail sales data for September today indicate the best result since March, then this could see the S&P close the week above recent range highs which would likely support risk appetite into next week.
