Gold and silver are both up modestly this morning … after posting big gains overnight. The early-session jump reflected hope that European leaders will … by this coming Sunday … produce a detailed and convincing plan to solve the continent’s debt and bank crisis. But … just a few hours ago … the chief spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel poured cold water on that hope. He said next Sunday’s meeting will probably NOT solve the problem … and he called hopes that some investors appear to have along those lines are … as he put it … “dreams.”
