WSJ:BASE METALS: Shanghai Metals Mixed; Copper Down 0.2%
SHANGHAI (Dow Jones)--Base metals on the Shanghai Futures Exchange were mixed Wednesday, with copper tracking Chinese equity markets to settle lower on the back of concerns over the country's economic growth after a slightly slower-than-expected pace in the third quarter.
Worries about Europe's ability to effectively resolve the region's sovereign-debt issues also kept copper under pressure, and any gains stemming from potential supply constraints may be capped after Moody's Investors Service cut Spain's sovereign ratings overnight.
Benchmark December copper settled 0.2% lower at CNY54,210 a metric ton.
