RTRS:S.Africa's rand hits 1-month high against dollar
JOHANNESBURG Oct 27 (Reuters) - South Africa's rand extended its gains against the dollar on Wednesday as investors flocked to high-risk assets amid encouraging signs of a euro zone deal to tackle the debt crisis.
The rand firmed 2.5 percent to hit a session high of 7.7625 to the dollar, its strongest since Sept. 28. It was trading at 7.77 at 1206 GMT, from Wednesday's New York close of 7.9651.
Government bonds tracked the currency's gains, with the yield on the 2015 bond down 11.5 basis points to 6.56 percent and that on the 2026 issue falling nine basis points to 8.26 percent. (Reporting by Phumza Macanda; Editing by Ed Cropley)
