LP:WTI oil futures fall to $91 on higher US EIA crude oil data

WTI oil futures open Thursday’s trading session lower, near $91 a barrel as the latest oil data from the US EIA (Energy Information Administration) saw US crude stocks rising by 1.8 million barrels, topping estimates.

Latest WTI Oil Price

US light crude oil futures for December 2011 delivery was trading at $91.02 a barrel, 07.05 GMT this morning in electronic trading on the NYMEX. The US contract closed Wednesday’s trading session at $92.59, or 0.4 percent higher.

Mixed US Fuel Data

The increase in US oil stockpiles allayed some concerns about a recent dip in stocks below their five year average level for the first time since 2008, but Wednesday’s increase was accompanied by a large decline in the stocks of distillates, which include heating oil and diesel, suggesting that US supplies are still growing tighter.

“Even though we had a bit of a build here, we’re still in an overall destocking trend. From the distillate point of view, it’s somewhat positive for oil prices.” said Dominick Chirichella, an analyst at the Energy Management Institute.
