BLBG:Euro Strengthens Against Dollar, Yen Ahead of G-20, ECB Meetings Today
 
The euro strengthened against the dollar and yen before Group of 20 leaders discuss the region’s debt crisis at a summit and Mario Draghi addresses his first policy meeting as European Central Bank President.
The shared currency also advanced versus 13 of its 16 major counterparts as European stocks gained, spurring demand for the region’s assets. The euro dropped earlier after French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Greece won’t receive a “single cent” in aid without holding to the terms of a rescue agreement hammered out last week.
The euro appreciated 0.3 percent to $1.3787 at 10:05 a.m. London time after weakening as much as 0.7 percent. The currency strengthened 0.3 percent to 107.57 yen. The dollar was little changed at 78.02 yen.
The euro region’s central bank will keep its key rate at 1.5 percent, according to the median estimate of of 55 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.
Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker said today on ZDF German television that euro-region governments want Greece to remain a member of the currency bloc, although not “at all costs.”
