MADRID (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock market futures rose sharply on Monday, driven by renewed optimism that European officials were poised to take action to alleviate the debt crisis wreaking havoc in the euro zone. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJ1Z +2.13% jumped 222 points, or 2%, to 11,418, while futures for the Standard & Poor's 500 index SP1Z +2.68% gained 29.70 points, or 2.6%, to 1,183.10. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index ND1Z +2.26% rose 49.50 points, or 2.3%, to 2,197. Meanwhile, gold for December delivery GC1Z +1.77% jumped $29.80 to $1,715.60 an ounce. Crude oil for January delivery CL2F +3.03% shot up $2.85 to $99.62 a barrel. European stock markets rose sharply across the board.
