ET:Euro rises 1% on day vs dollar, Australian dollar up 2%
LONDON: The euro extended gains against the dollar on Monday, rising one per cent on the day, buoyed by short-covering, with traders saying the currency extended gains as stop loss orders were triggered.
The euro rose to a session high of $1.3380, with traders citing leveraged names buying and saying stops were triggered through $1.3355 and $1.3370, with more said to be above $1.3420. The euro also rose above its 100-hour moving average around $1.3365.
A broad improvement in risk appetite also weighed on the dollar, pushing the dollar index down 1 per cent to a session low of 78.893, while the dollar fell 1 per cent versus the Swiss franc to 0.91916 francs, according to EBS data.
The Australian dollar also rose more than 2 per cent on the day to a one-week high of US$0.9942.
