SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Oil futures Tuesday turned higher ahead of the New York Mercantile Exchange floor-trade open, and gold futures edged up, as European nations' ability to keep borrowing among rising yields dominated sentiment. Oil for January delivery CL2F +0.24% added 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $98.30 a barrel. The contract had slipped in Asian trading before rebounding above $99 a barrel during European hours, as stocks and the euro rallied on hopes for the outcome of a meeting of euro-zone finance ministers in Brussels and after an Italian bond auction was met with decent demand. Gold futures for December delivery GC1Z +0.01% edged up 10 cents to $1,701.90 an ounce.
