MW: GM November U.S. sales up 7% from year ago

By Matt Andrejczak
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- General Motors GM +1.60% said Thursday it sold 180,402 vehicles to U.S. customers in November, up 7% compared with November 2010. Top sellers included pick-up trucks and sports utility vehicles, such as Chevrolet Silverado, with sales up 34%, and GMC Sierra, up 22%. For small compact cars, the Chevrolet Cruze posted a 54% sales increase. Buick sales fell 7.2% for the month compared to November 2010, while Cadillac sales slipped 5.6%. "We are seeing a broad spectrum of customers return to the market," said Don Johnson, GM's Vice President of U.S. sales operations. "Truck sales showed a very solid increase, as we expected, but the momentum building behind our most fuel-efficient vehicles was even stronger." GM shares rose 1.6% to $21.66 in recent trades.
