The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 109.14 points, or 0.91 percent, at 11,845.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 12.45 points, or 1.02 percent, at 1,213.28. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was down 40.32 points, or 1.56 percent, at 2,538.95.
