(RTTNews) - The euro area trade surplus fell to EUR 1.1 billion in October from EUR 3.1 billion in the same period of last year, Eurostat said Friday. Economists were expecting the surplus to drop to EUR 1 billion from EUR 2.7 billion in September.
Exports fell by a seasonally adjusted 1.9 percent on a monthly basis, after easing 1.1 percent in September. At the same time, imports dropped at a slower pace of 0.7 percent, following a 3.2 percent fall in the prior month.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 0.3 billion in October, smaller than last month's EUR 2.2 billion surplus.
