NEW DELHI: Base metals strengthened with prices rising up to Rs 5 per kg on the on the local non- ferrous metal market today, largely on the back of pick-up in industrial demand amid rising global trend.
Sentiment remained firm as copper strengthened to one- week high in a week in global markets after China's Premier Wen Jiabao pledged to support exports from the second-largest economy and data showed that its imports of the refined metal rallied last month.
Meanwhile, copper for three-month rose by 0.9 per cent to USD 7,477.75 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, the highest price since December 14.
In the national capital, copper mixed scrap and nickel (4x4) advanced by Rs 2 and Rs 5 to Rs 382 and Rs 1,060-1,062 per kg, respectively.
Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were also moved up by Rs 2 each to Rs 122-128.50, Rs 128 and Rs 126 per kg, respectively.
