FXS; Turkish lira falls to record lows versus US Dollar
"The Turkish lira slid to an all-time low against the dollar Wednesday, as emerging European currencies suffered from a rush to the safe-haven U.S. currency.
The dollar shot up to TRY1.9158 against the lira, from TRY1.8994 late Tuesday, according to CQG. That marks the weakest level on record versus the dollar for Turkey's currency. The move came in line with the euro's slide against the dollar, as investors remain concerned about Italy, whose borrowing costs remain high despite a decent debt auction Wednesday.
Comments from Turkey's central bank governor, who said the bank will intervene directly on the foreign exchange market on exceptional days, further led investors to sell the lira, though in very thin trading."
