The men entered Dollar General at 1520 S. Sheridan Road with handguns as a manager was opening the store about 6 a.m., Officer Jeff Dosser said. They forced the manager to open a safe in the back and then fled in a car driven by another man, he said.
They took cash and the manager’s wallet and threw his cell phone onto the ground, Dosser said. He was not injured.
The manager, Dennis Duvall, said the men appeared almost as soon as he opened the front doors and then told him to get money.
“I heard some rustling and they were there,” he said. “I don’t guess it was their first rodeo. They seemed to know what they were doing.”
Dosser said the men appeared to know the layout of the store.
Both are described as black, and wore black hooded sweatshirts. At least one may have also worn a ski mask, Dosser said.
One of them is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and thin, and one is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, he said.
One carried a black semi-automatic handgun and the other had a black revolver, he said.
They headed north on Sheridan in a silver four-door car, police said. No description of the driver was available.
