MW: Treasury prices unmoved by data

By Greg Morcroft
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. Treasury prices remained slightly firmer from yesterday's close, but were unaffected by the latest government report that showed import prices ticking down slightly but an expanding trade deficit. After declining for four straight months, the U.S. trade deficit widened by 10.4% in November to $47.8 billion, the Commerce Department said Friday. This is the largest trade gap since June and the biggest jump in the deficit since May. Import prices slipped 0.1% in December, according to the government. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was at 1.90%, up a tad for the session. The 30-year bond was also modestly higher, trading to yield 2.94%.
