RTTN:Indian Rupee Rises To 2-day High Against US Dollar
(RTTNews) - The Indian rupee advanced against its US counterpart on Wednesday as domestic shares ended firm near 12-week highs on the back of data showing an expansion of domestic manufacturing activity and upbeat auto sales numbers for January.
Renewed optimism over talks between Greece and its private creditors and a fairly encouraging Portugal bill auction results also eased worries about Europe's debt crisis, lifting the benchmark 30-share Sensex up 107 points or 0.6 percent while the broader Nifty index by 36 points or 0.7 percent to 5,236.
The rupee advanced to a 2-day high of 49.2405 against the US dollar, staying above the 50.0 level for the third consecutive day. The domestic unit was quoted around the 49.2740 level at the end of the session, just a tad below last week's fresh 2-1/2 month peak of 49.22.
