RM: Gasoline prices inching upward

Gas prices around Georgia have been creeping up lately, and a gallon in Rome was selling for between $3.45 and $3.49 on Thursday night.

The price per gallon in the state has risen about 4 cents since this time last week, according to GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan. Prices are about 25 cents higher than one month ago and about 48 cents higher than one year ago.

“Late last week we saw wholesale gasoline prices rise dramatically on some refinery issues, which leads me to believe that retail gasoline prices will rise in response,” said DeHaan, who noted that sanctions by the European Union on Iran could lead that country to cease exports to Europe, potentially affecting oil prices around the globe.

Most gasoline retailers in Rome were selling a gallon for either $3.45 or $3.49 on Thursday night.

Prices along Turner McCall Boulevard, for example, ranged from $3.45 at Kroger to $3.50 at the Kangaroo. Meanwhile, the Kangaroo on Kingston Avenue was selling their regular fuel for $3.49 per gallon, as was the Market on Second in downtown Rome.
