ET:ECB's Makuch says euro zone still in fragile state
BRATISLAVA: The euro zone economy is still in a fragile state, European Central Bank Governing Council member Jozef Makuch said on Tuesday, adding the ECB's monetary policy remained accommodative.
"My opinion remains unchanged. Yes there are positive signs, but I would not go for a conclusion that there's a turning point," said Makuch, who also heads the Slovak central bank.
"On the contrary, I still consider the situation fragile and we need to wait more to have this positive trend confirmed throughout a longer time period," he added.
Makuch also said that he did not expect "a radical or fundamental change to monetary policy settings in the short term".
"The ECB monetary policy is considered accommodative and pro-growth," he said.
