MW: U.S. stocks trim rise as consumer confidence dips

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks shaved Tuesday gains after the Conference Board reported its gauge of consumer confidence fell to 70.2 in March from a February reading of 71.6 the prior month. Erasing a slight gain, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.06% fell 12.52 points to 13,229.10. The S&P 500 SPX +0.05% was off a fraction at 1,416.35. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.14% remained 1.38 point higher at 3,123.95.
