NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks slipped Tuesday ahead of a Commerce Department report on factory orders in February and minutes from the Federal Reserve’s last rate meeting later in the day.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.20% fell 26.30 points to 13,238.1.
The S&P 500 Index SPX -0.25% declined 3.86 points to 1,415.18, with energy the worst performer and technology the best among its 10 sectors.
The Nasdaq Composite COMP -.00% shed nearly 2 points to 3,117.97.
For every stock gaining two fell on the New York Stock Exchange, where 60 million shares traded as of 9:40 a.m. Eastern.
