NS: Exports fall, trade surplus dropped in February
 
OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says the country's trade surplus declined substantially in February as exports to the United States declined sharply and imports edged up.
The agency says Canada's trade surplus dropped to $292 million from $1.9 billion in January.
Overall exports fell 3.9 per cent to $39.6 billion, with energy products and automotive products the main contributors to the decline.
Imports increased 0.2 per cent to $39.3 billion as prices rose 1.0 per cent.
Exports to the United States fell 3.8 per cent to $29.3 billion on lower shipments of crude oil and the trade surplus with the U.S. fell to $4.8 billion from $6.1 billion in January.
Exports to countries other than the United States fell 4.0 per cent to $10.3 billion. and the trade deficit with these countries rose to $4.5 billion from $4.1 billion in January.
