MW:Treasurys gain, dollar stays down after claims

By Deborah Levine
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Treasury prices extended gains and the dollar stayed under slight pressure on Thursday after data showing U.S. initial jobless claims were little changed in the latest week at 388,000, while many economists expected a decline. The dollar index DXY -0.06% , which measures the greenback against a basket of six currencies, traded at 79.012, from 79.023 before the data and 79.072 in late North American trading on Wednesday. The euro EURUSD -0.0497% traded at $1.3212, from $1.3220 Wednesday. Yields on 10-year notes 10_YEAR -1.46% which move inversely to prices, fell 5 basis points to 1.94%. Still to come is the Treasury Department's auction of 7-year notes 7_YEAR -1.98% .
