MW: Treasury's Brainard in Europe for economic talks

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - U.S. Undersecretary for International Affairs Lael Brainard is in Europe this week for meetings with senior government officials "to discuss their plans for achieving economic stability and growth," the department announced Tuesday. Brainard began her talks in Athens Tuesday and will visit Frankfurt, Madrid, and Paris before ending her trip in Berlin on Thursday. The Obama administration has insisted that Europe has the tools to solve its debt crisis. U.S. officials have tried, at least in public, to accentuate the positive. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has welcomed Europe's new focus on how to stimulate growth.
