MW: Global economic woes batter Brazil, Mexico stocks

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Brazilian and Mexican equities markets joined the global stock selloff Friday on disappointing economic data from major economies. Brazil's Ibovespa BR:BVSP -1.06% retreated 1.2% to 53,828.07 and Mexico's IPC MX:IPC -0.52% shed 0.9% to 37,532.44. Manufacturing activity in the euro zone contracted at the fastest pace in three years to 45.1 in May from 45.9 in April while HSBC's China Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 48.4 in May versus April's 49.3. U.S. jobless data further burdened confidence after the Labor Department said the economy added only 69,000 jobs last month, sharply below expectations.
