The rupee opened 25 paise higher at 55.17 against the US dollar today on strong Asian markets as the Euro Zone finance ministers agreed to provide €100-billion ($125 billion) aid to Spain.
At 9.44 am, the Indian unit was trading higher at 55.14 to the dollar.
On Friday, the rupee weakened by 48 paise to 55.42 against the dollar amid demand for US currency due to Euro crisis amid downgrading of Spain by Fitch.
Call rates, G-sSecs
The call rates opened flat at 8.2 per cent and were currently trading at 8.1 per cent.
The rates had settled at 8.2 per cent on Friday on alternate bouts of demand and supply.
The benchmark 8.79 per cent government securities maturing in 2021 opened higher at Rs 102.85 and gained further to Rs 103.05.
At 9.50 am, the 10-year bond was trading at Rs 102.98 with a yield of 8.32 per cent. It had closed at Rs 102.78 on Friday.
