Oil prices have started rising after President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy said that the EU summit agreed to set up a joint banking supervisory body for the eurozone.
The American WTI crude oil for August delivery rose by 2.06 dollars and reached up to 79.75 dollars a barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange, while the price of Brent grew by 2.09 dollars and reached 93.45 dollars a barrel.
The EU summit is holding its second session on Friday. French President Francois Hollande told reporters that at the request of Spain and Italy, it would discuss short-term measures to calm the financial markets in the eurozone that embraces 17 EU member countries.
