FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Retail sales volume across the 17-nation euro zone saw a 0.6% monthly rise in May and were down 1.7% compared to the same month last year, European Union statistics agency Eurostat reported Wednesday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast a 0.2% monthly rise and a 0.6% year-on-year decline. April retail sales data were revised to show a 1.4% monthly fall versus an earlier estimate of 1%, Eurostat said, while year-on-year sales were revised to a 3.4% April decline from a 2.5% fall.
